To all the hard-working attending physicians out there —

Let’s face it.

Working in academic medicine is intense, to say the least.

Maybe some of this sounds familiar to you…

You feel like you’re drowning when it comes to work/life “balance”

→ Your relationships are strained due to the demanding nature of your career

→ You’ve been pushed through a narrow career path for a long time. Now that you’re an Attending, you’re not sure where to go next.

→ You don’t know how to align your values with unrealistic expectations of being an attending physician (especially at an academic institution)

Your challenges are rooted in systemic issues

  • An outdated work culture that penalizes moms and parents through its policies and practices.

  • Inflexible and unrealistic working conditions that leave you feeling burned out and frazzled.

  • A high-stakes career that’s lacking support and doesn’t provide the space to process traumatic events

So many people feel this way, but don’t know how to talk about it.

Here’s the good news: you are not alone in this struggle.

How I can help

Navigate your unique situation as an attending phyisican

I specialize in helping physicians and moms navigate their best path forward in systems that aren’t built for them. My work with physician clients (and my husband’s journey as an attending physician-scientist) has given me an intimate look into these systems — while also integrating a much-needed outside perspective.

Coaching where you like, when you like

  • 60-minute, virtual 1:1 coaching sessions where you can join me from the privacy of your own home or office

  • Asynchronous concierge services for additional coaching in between sessions

A compassionate yet rigorous evidence-based approach

I am an ICF-credentialed coach. In short, that means I have completed over 125 hours of coaching education through a graduate-level program, over 100 hours of one-on-one coaching training, passed performance evaluations and exams, and I adhere to the highest ethical standards.

A marriage of head, heart, and gut

I am intuitive, a super empath, and also very data-driven and analytical. Bringing these dynamic qualities together helps my clients to achieve real transformation.

MD Client Testimonial

"I recently had the privilege to work with Coral Edwards as my personal coach, and to say it was transformative would be an understatement.

One of Coral's standout qualities is her uncanny ability to discern aspects about me that I had been blind to. It felt as if she had a unique gift, almost like a sixth sense, that made her pick up on facets of my character and potential that had been hidden or overlooked. This skill, combined with her impressive repertoire of evidence-based tools, helped me find ways to move forward, especially when I felt stuck.

Whether it was navigating through conflicts or maximizing both my personal and professional life, her techniques were insightful and genuinely effective. I would not just recommend, but would 1000% endorse Coral Edwards Coaching to anyone looking to make meaningful strides in their personal and professional journey.

Outcomes you can expect

Decide what success looks like to you

Whether you’re handling a 30-hour call or are expected to sacrifice everything in the name of work, attending physicians face a unique set of challenges. Through evidence-based coaching, we’ll create a space that disrupts traditional systems and helps you navigate a future aligned with your values.

Widen your career path

Residency and fellowship training have few exit points and often follow a narrow path. Transitioning from training to attendinghood is rarely talked about — much less leadership skills and career routes! Our work together will help you find an integration of work and life that fits your values.

Experience groundedness, clarity, and confidence

While transformation doesn’t happen overnight, my evidence-based approach will help you…

  • Step into your values

  • Hone your career vision

  • Gain the growth needed to achieve your goals

Set an example for those who come after

Gaining clarity and setting boundaries lays the groundwork for modeling systemic changes. Through our work together, we’ll create an inclusive, growth-minded environment — for yourself, your family, and the medical professionals who follow.

"I transitioned to a new role immediately after maternity leave, which led me to coaching. Coral helped me develop and implement strategies to manage difficult working relationships, disrupt negative thought patterns, and helped me achieve clarity on my career goals. Her work is enlightening, affirming, and actionable.

FAQS

  • What you can expect to achieve depends on the goals you want to set and how we work together. I will be your guide, your facilitator, your advocate, and your supporter, but you are the owner of you, and you have ownership over what you achieve in coaching.

You can achieve transformational change if you are ready, willing, and open. You can become the leader / parent / employee / person you want to be.

  • I find the following two metaphors help illustrate the difference between therapy and coaching:

    1. A therapist is an archeologist, and a coach is an architect.

    2. As a client, you are the driver of your car. As your coach, we may sit in the passenger seat. We may hold the map and recommend we turn left or right, but you have complete control over where you drive the car. We may occasionally look in the rearview mirror to examine the past for clues about the present, but the car is always moving forward.

i also wrote a blog post about the differences between coaching and therapy.

I believe every human can benefit from both a coach and a therapist. I have both myself.

  • I am not the expert of your life; you are. However, I am an ICF-credentialed evidence-based coach.

I have worked with a range of professionals (parents and women+) - from doctors to entrepreneurs, from CEOs to managers, from small business owners to Fortune 500 execs) across various industries (technology, academia, pharmaceuticals, professional services, start-ups, public policymakers, nonprofits, etc.).

While it’s nice to be familiar with a vertical or role, coaching is about the person getting coached, not the role they hold or the vertical they work in.

I begin every coaching engagement with a free 45-minute chemistry call to ensure we’re a good fit. In this call, you and I will learn more about one another, you all will engage in light coaching, and I will make space to address any questions and concerns you have.

You can move forward with coaching if we mutually agree we are a good fit. If not, I will collaborate with you to find a better solution that fits your needs.

  • The ICF is the International Coaching Federation, largely known as the gold standard for coaching certification. The ACC-level coaching program I completed adheres to strict ethical standards and requires rigorous levels of education, experience, mentor coaching, performance evaluation, and exams to receive a certification.

  • I am an evidence-based coach, which means that I work from ethical, research-based frameworks on the most effective approach in practice for coaching. While I also integrate my empathy and intuition into my coaching practice, its foundation comes from a set of rigorous academic standards.

  • In short, usually six months or more. I say this because the majority of my clients are still working with me for well over a year. Transformation takes time, and self-evolution is an ongoing process. However, I require no minimum contract and flexible terms.

  • For two (2) 60-minute, virtual 1:1 coaching sessions a month, and asynchronous concierge coaching services in between sessions, I charge $600/month.

(I offer equity-based coaching and a sliding scale — if the $ investment is a concern for you, let’s talk about it!)

I require no minimum contract and offer incredibly flexible terms, including no cancellation fee and no minimum number of sessions. I ask each client to pay their monthly fee upfront (e.g. I invoice on the first of every month, payment is NET 15) and each client has a private Calendly link through which they can schedule the respective month's sessions.
